Adult Braces — Woman Smiling While Holding Retainer And Braces in Fresno, CA

You're an adult, so surely you don't need braces. That's not necessarily true. Many people who don't get braces as children never realize that they need braces as an adult. If you're experiencing issues with your teeth, they could be a sign that you need adult braces.

1. You Lost Your Baby Teeth Early

Losing your baby teeth early often leads to issues with adult teeth, and this could be a sign that you need adult braces. If you lost your baby teeth early, your adult teeth may grow in crooked, or may be incorrectly spaced. Even minor issues with your teeth spacing could cause problems later in life.

2. Your Teeth Are Getting Worse

Have you noticed your teeth shifting over time? It can happen, especially if you had issues with your wisdom teeth. You may notice that your teeth are getting closer together, or that some of them have become crooked. You should have these issues corrected early so they don't lead to more significant problems later on.

If you've had teeth removed, or if you've gotten bridges or other work done, this can increase the chances that your teeth may shift.

3. You're Experiencing Pain in Your Jaw or Mouth

Sometimes you may not notice any issues with your teeth but instead issues with your jaw or mouth. Do you have any pain or stiffness in your jaw? Do you experience issues such as TMJ? This could be an indicator that your teeth aren't properly aligned, and jaw pain may get worse over time.

4. You Hesitate to Smile

The issue may not be physical but rather psychological. A person's smile has a huge impact on their emotional state. If you feel ashamed to smile because your teeth are crooked, now may be the time to get your smile fixed. Even a relatively unnoticeable issue might still make you feel a little self-conscious.

5. You're Having a Hard Time Eating

Issues with your teeth can make biting and chewing difficult. This is one of those things that people can get used to, over time, but they really shouldn't — a poor bite can cause general issues with your health and your eating habits.

6. You Can't Clean Your Teeth Properly

Are you experiencing a lot of issues with cavities? An increase in cavities may be because you aren't able to clean your teeth properly. If you don't have sufficient gaps between your teeth, you may not be able to brush or floss correctly. Correcting your bite will fix this. Issues with cavities are going to lead to costly fixes later on, so you should address them now.

7. You've Always Meant to Fix It

If you've always meant to fix your teeth, now may be the time to do so. There are a lot of options today, and financing is available. Correcting your teeth earlier is always better than later in order to reduce the chances of more serious issues later on. These issues could ultimately be more expensive than braces now.

8. You're Worried About Visible Braces

Many people avoided braces as a child or a young adult because they didn't want to have visible braces. Today, there are options that aren't as visible. If you've been holding off on your adult braces because you're embarrassed about the situation, or because you don't want the braces to be noticeable, you can talk to your dentist about alternatives.

You have some incredible options for adult braces today. Procedures such as Invisalign allow you to correct your teeth without visible correction. For a consultation, schedule an appointment with Donald E. Snyder Orthodontics today.
